Rishikesh is one of the most peaceful and spiritual destinations in Uttarakhand. As someone who lives near Rishikesh town I had visited Rishikesh frequently, I’ve experienced it not as a tourist, but as a local traveler. On one simple day trip, I explored Ram Jhula, walked through its vibrant markets, attended the peaceful Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat and ended the evening at Janki Setu experienced the magical live show there — all on a budget of less than ₹500.

If you're a student or budget traveler, this article will guide you to explore Rishikesh without spending too much money.

How I Reached Rishikesh

I took a local bus around 11 AM from a nearby stop, which cost just ₹30 to reach Rishikesh bus stand. From there, shared rickshaws to Ram Jhula are easily available for around ₹20.

Walking on Ram Jhula – A Thrilling Experience

Walking across Ram Jhula is an experience in itself. Most people prefer walking rather than riding bikes, as it allows you to truly enjoy the views of the Ganga flowing below. The bridge gently sways as people walk or ride bikes across it. On my first visit, the slight movement of the bridge felt a little scary — but within minutes, it became exciting and fun.

Ram Jhula is famous for its unique swinging structure, the night lighting and spiritual surroundings. On both sides of the bridge, there are vibrant markets selling wooden handicrafts, souvenirs, bracelets, earrings, necklaces, and home decor items. The prices were affordable, and I also bought a few bracelets and earrings.

Evening Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat

Around 6:30PM when the Ganga Aarti was about to be started at the sunset, I reached Triveni Ghat to attend the famous Ganga Aarti. As people slowly gathered near the river, the atmosphere became calm and spiritual.

When the priests began chanting prayers, their voices echoed across the ghat. Even without artificial speakers, the sound filled the entire place. People closed their eyes and peacefully listened. It was one of the most calming and spiritual experiences I have ever had.

Janki Setu Night Show

After attending the peaceful Ganga Arti at evening I went to the Janki Setu by rickshaw to attend the most famous night show of Rishikesh which happens from 6:30PM to 8:30 PM. I visited the show while sitting at the Kailash Ghat stairs, just experiencing the view of the perfect lighting show which literally feels magical and the chilly winds from the Ganga river were making this experience more memorable, this is a perfect location to view the night show of Janki Setu and with this my exciting day trip was ended.
